Cardiology

A variety of cardiovascular conditions and diseases can affect veterinary patients including heart failure, valve problems, and high blood pressure. At Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in New Hampshire, we work with you and your veterinarian to diagnose and provide compassionate, expert care to pets with heart conditions.

Our cardiologists will work with you and your regular veterinarian to provide the comprehensive care your pet needs.

While some cardiac conditions may be serious, many heart diseases are manageable on an outpatient basis and allow for a good quality of life. Early diagnosis and effective treatment will increase your pet’s opportunity to live a normal life.

Pets that exhibit any of the following symptoms may benefit from a cardiac evaluation:
  • Heart murmur
  • Shortness of breath or breathing problems
  • Chronic cough
  • Heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Fainting
  • Fluid accumulation in the chest or abdomen
  • Exercise intolerance

Our cardiologist and anesthesiologist will evaluate pets prior to anesthesia to assess possible risks, and to develop the most appropriate treatment plan.

We are honored that you have chosen to trust us with your furry family member's care

Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital opened its doors in 2008 with 15,000sqft of space and 11 exam rooms. At the time, the hospital felt enormous with plenty of room for growth. Now, in 2022, we are caring for 76% more pets than we were in just 2019. This has put a strain on our capacity to invite all of our clients into our hospital.

To meet the needs of the community, and serve as many pets as we can, we will be keeping curbside care in place while we lease and renovate a new, larger building nearby. We’re looking forward to a bright future in a bigger hospital where we can care for all your clever, cute, sneaky, wonderous pets. We ask you to understand and forgive us a little as we navigate the next phase in our evolution.
